Opened in February 2019, District M is a modern sushi restaurant rooted in traditional Japanese omakase, located in the culinary epicenter of Sandy Springs, GA - Modera Sandy Springs. Presenting the premium fish flown in daily from Japan, Spain and around the world, District M boasts the largest sushi bar in metro Atlanta and an imported, state of the art Japanese grill for Yakitori. Executive Chef Jackie Chang serves artful omakase, moriawase, a la carte sushi and charcoal grilled dishes. The chef-driven, upscale dining experience is complete with a beverage program including an extensive list of Japanese whiskies, beers and sakés overflowing in traditional masu boxes. The restaurant's decor is sparse and chic, elevating Japanese minimalism while incorporating a sleek, modern vibe. District M features an outdoor patio with window bar service and a 30-seat private dining room doubling as a relaxed, lounge space.
Owner / Executive Chef
With more than eleven years of culinary experience, Executive Chef Jackie Chang has an impressive resume and skill set. Chef Jackie Chang began his career serving with the kitchen police in the South Korean Military for three years. Upon relocating to the states, Chef Jackie Chang joined Atlanta’s thriving culinary scene at arguably one of Georgia’s best restaurants, Umi in Buckhead. Working under Chef Fuyuhiko Ito at Umi, Chef Jackie Chang evolved and mastered his skills. Following Umi, Chef Jackie Chang spent time at O-Ku in Atlanta, serving as Executive Chef, developing the menu and closely training staff to a higher level of excellence while continuing to make a name for himself in the city. Now tapping into his extensive and rich history of Japanese cuisine, incorporating both his professional experience and his own childhood traditions, Chef Jackie Chang takes on an entrepreneurial endeavor of his own. As the Executive Chef of District M, Chef Jackie Chang delivers a precisely curated omakase procession and elevated Japanese cuisine that is all at once cutting-edge and rooted in tradition.
While studying at Georgia State University, Simon began his hospitality career as a server at Doshi Sushi in Atlanta. Quickly rising through the ranks, Simon became floor manager, which instantly sparked his passion for the restaurant industry. Following this passion, Simon assisted with opening sushi house, Katana Teppanyaki in Buckhead. Simon served as Assistant General Manager for two years, helping to establish Katana Teppanyaki as one of Atlanta’s best rated sushi restaurants. In 2015, Simon served as Dining Room Assistant General Manager for restaurant group, Indigo Road, which allowed him to broaden his resume. Now with nearly a decade of restaurant experience, Simon seeks his next challenge. Teaming up with Executive Chef Jackie Chang, Simon’s latest venture is opening District M. As General Manager, Simon looks to offer a modern yet traditional Japanese fine dining experience to metro Atlanta residents and beyond.
